CEDAR CITY, UT -- The SUU Men's Basketball team will head to Texas for a two-game road stint at the University of Tarleton and against Abilene Christian. They will play the Texans on Thursday, Jan 25 at 6 p.m. and the Wildcats on Saturday, Jan 27 at 2 p.m.
Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Texans
Tarleton State is currently third in the WAC standings, with an overall record of 12-6 and 5-2 in conference play, their only conference losses coming against California Baptist and Grand Canyon.Â
They hold opponents to 66 points per game and score an average of 70. They shoot the three ball under 30% on the year but nearly 45% from the field. They are one of the top teams in the conference in turnovers and forced turnovers and steals, averaging nearly nine steals per contest and forcing almost 15 turnovers a game.Â
They are led by 6'6 forward Jakorie Smith, who averages just under 15 points per game, to go along with 4.5 rebounds and two assists. He's also second on the team with 27 steals on the year.Â
The Texans have three other players averaging double-digits in scoring: Lue Williams (12.7), KiAndre Gaddy (12.1), and Devon Barnes (10.4).Â
Gaddy leads the team in rebounds and blocks, with over seven rebounds a game and nearly two blocks per. Barnes has the best 3P% on the team at 35%.Â
Four Texans have at least 25 steals on the season, with Williams and Emmanuel Innocenti leading the way with 28.Â
The Wildcats
ACU allows opponents to score 76 points per game, shooting 46% from the field and 33% from three. They also lose the rebounding battle by an average of five boards a game.Â
There are three players averaging double-digits for the Wildcats, led by Ali Abdou Dibba, scoring 15.6 points per game on nearly 50% from the field. Airion Simmons isn't too far behind at 13.4 points per game and also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6.4 points per contest. Hunter Jack Madden pours in 12.3 of his own and shoots a team-high 44% from three.Â
Kavion McClain leads the team in assists with 65 on the year.Â
"It will be a tough road stretch for us, but we are playing some good basketball right now. We still struggle with discipline at times, but every game, we are able to learn a lesson and hopefully improve after each game," said Coach Jeter.Â
