Box Score ABILENE, TEXAS -- The SUU Women's Soccer team needed a point to remain in contention for postseason play, and they earned a 1-1 draw at Abilene on Thursday night.
Head Coach Kai Edwards said
"A tie on the road keeps us in the hunt. Sunday is a must win."
Game Recap
The Thunderbirds controlled everything throughout most of the first half and opened the scoring in the 28th minute after Steph Roper made a great run to the outside and found a cutting Hailey Hamataka, who tapped one into the back of the net. The Thunderbirds headed into the break with a 1-0 lead.Â
The second half was all ACU. With the Wildcats firing 11 of their 14 shots in the second half, eventually, one trickled past Darya Mosallaei, and Amelia Miller was credited with the goal.Â
Both teams worked hard to score the go-ahead goal, but the game ended in a 1-1 draw.Â
Statistical Recap
SUU was outshot 14-5 but only 4-3 in shots on target. The Wildcats took 11 corners compared to just three for SUU.Â
Hailey Hamataka scored her second goal of the year and is now third on the team in total points scored, with five.Â
Steph Roper logged her fourth assist of the year, which now leads the team.Â
Mosallaei collected two saves in the draw.Â
