CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The Southern Utah Women's Soccer team couldn't keep up with the conference's top-ranked team and lost 3-0 to Utah Valley.
Head Coach Kai Edwards said
"We played a very good team today. Second half we outshot them and out possessed them which is great. I am proud of the leadership of the group to handle the whole game. In the end we played two of the top team in the league and in the west, and shut them out for three of four halves. We get a couple back on Friday and we go again!"
Game Recap
The Thunderbirds played a quality 80 minutes against the top team in the WAC. Brady Manthy opened the scoring in the 22nd minute on an assist from Nixan Jackson. In the 24th minute, Cortney Cobabe found the back of the net on assists from Nixan Jackson and Taylor Nelson. Just two minutes later, Ruby Hladek made it 3-0 for the Wolverines, with Nixan getting her third assist of the match.
The Thunderbirds' second half was really impressive. They outshot the Wolverines 4-3 and had a lot of control. Sarah Assumma had a grade-A chance to cut into the lead that was just tipped up and over the back of the net.
The game would end 3-0 in favor of the Wolverines.
Statistical Recap
The Wolverines finished with 13 shots, seven on target, compared to six shots and three on frame for SUU.
Sarah Assumma led the way for SUU with two total shots and finding the frame on both. Manthy had two shots on goal for the Wolverines.
SUU was without Whitney Gardner, Rylan Tebbs, and Darya Mosallaei.
Stacy Baressi was in net for the Thunderbirds and collected four saves on seven shots faced.
Leah Wolf and CJ Graham combined for the shutout in net for the Wolverines.

SUU will be home again on Friday, October 11, at 4:00 p.m. when Grand Canyon comes to town.
