CEDAR CITY, Utah — Southern Utah University student-athletes recently participated in the annual "Shop with a Cop" event, a community tradition that pairs law enforcement officers with local children to brighten their holiday season. Held in Cedar City, the event provided children with a unique opportunity to shop for Christmas gifts alongside their officer mentors and SUU's dedicated student-athletes.

Student-athletes from a variety of SUU teams volunteered to assist during the event. They helped the children select gifts, wrap presents, and create lasting memories. The athletes' participation underscores SUU's commitment to fostering community engagement and giving back to the city that supports its athletic programs.

Jared Sharp, a junior on the Track and Field team, praised the event, saying, "Shop with a Cop was absolutely awesome! The kids were all super excited, and it was great to see the community come together like that." 

Taylor Gull, a senior gymnast for the Flippin' Birds said, "Shop with a cop is my favorite community outreach activity we do! It is so fun to see the kids and heartwarming watching them pick out gifts for not only themselves, but their siblings as well. We love wrapping presents and getting to chat with them while we do it! I can't say enough about how amazing our first responders here in Iron County are!"

"Shop with a Cop" not only spreads holiday cheer but also strengthens relationships between local law enforcement, student-athletes, and the community. The event highlighted the power of collaboration and SUU's dedication to making a difference beyond the classroom and the field.
