CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Thunderbird softball team is fresh off an exciting opening weekend at the Fullerton Easton Classic, where they battled to a 4-1 record. Key to that battle was freshman pitcher Emily Delgado. Delgado has been named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for her impressive efforts this weekend.
Coach Don Don Williams Said
"Emily did a great job commanding the zone this weekend. She showed composure and poise in her debut as a T-Bird."
Delgado made her official debut for the Thunderbirds in the season opener, coming in to pitch three innings against UIC. The freshman from Corona, California, dominated the game's back end, striking out three without allowing a hit. The following day, Delgado pitched 3.2 innings against a tough Colorado State team, allowing just one hit while striking out three.

The breakout performance for Delgado came in the Sunday morning tilt against UIC. Delgado pitched a seven-inning complete game to help the Thunderbirds secure their third win of the tournament. In that game, she surrendered just three hits while striking out six batters. The shutout victory was the first for the T-Birds since the 2021 season and has Southern Utah 4-1 to start the season for the first time since 2004.
