ST. GEORGE, Utah/SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Southern Utah University track & field teams wrapped up their first outdoor meet of the 2024 season at the Aztec and Utah Tech Invitationals on Mar. 22-23.
Head Coach Eric Houle Said:
"At Utah Tech, where some of the team competed, the weather was conducive to some very good performances. It set the stage for next weekend at Stanford. In San Diego, the weather got pretty bad and affected some of the performances, but all in all, it was a great start for the outdoor season."

Aztec Invitational
With 53 points, the Thunderbird men's team took fourth in a field of 25 teams, in front of programs like Oregon, Colorado, and BYU.
Dylan Gibson impressed in the 400m, placing second with a time of 47.19 seconds. Nick Pembroke and Dawson Stokes took 23rd and 26th with times of 50.15 and 50.77 seconds respectively.
Ashton Miller and Jace Rodgers went back-to-back in the 400m in third and fourth place with times of 55.49 and 55.89 seconds.
With 1.93 points, the women's team took 28th place.
In the pole vault, Ariana Baker and Makenna Skoczylas each broke the school record With a height of 12'02.25"
Jessica Thurman took eighth place in the high jump with a distance of 5'03.25". Madisyn Baillie was close behind with a distance of 5'01.25", good for 11th place.
Utah Tech Invitational
In the discus throw, Morgan Blackburn took the top spot for the women's team with a throw of 153'01.00", setting a new meet record. Logann Laws and Jackalyn Hatch also entered the record books in the javelin, with Laws' throw of 150'02.00" putting her in second all-time at SUU, and Hatch's throw of 140'06.00" putting her at ninth all-time.
For the men's team, Hayden Harward and Travis Feeny took first and second in the 1500m with times of 3:49.57 and 3:50.71 respectively. Lanse Larsen followed with a sixth-place finish and a time of 3:53.43 and Clayton Adams rounded out competition for the 'Birds in eighth with a time of 3:53.64. Jared Sharp took first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.76 seconds.
In the javelin throw, five Thunderbirds finished in the top ten with Bronis MacDougall leading the way in fourth with a throw of 197'00.00".

The Thunderbirds will now prepare for the busiest weekend of the year as both teams will participate in the Texas Relays from Mar. 27-30 and the UVU and Stanford Invitationals from Mar. 29-30.
