Road Warriors; Thunderbirds Travel to University of Utah and UT Arlington This Week

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Thunderbirds will continue on the road next week with a single game at the University of Utah on Tuesday, March 26 at 5:00 p.m. MT,  before a weekend series at UT Arlington on Friday, March 29 and 30. The weekend games are set to begin with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 3:00 p.m. MT. and continuing with a single game on Saturday at 11:00 a.m MT.

"This week involves a lot of travel. We need to rest when we can and be ready to step on the field with UTA. There are no easy games on the road in the WAC. Pitching, hitting, and defense need to show up and compete in order to win on the road." 


Southern Utah

In the heart of the Thunderbirds' lineup, Junior Karmyna Becerra and Ariyana Miranda have been relentless forces, driving their offensive charge with style. Becerra boasts a team-leading .352 batting average and a .994 OPS, while Miranda leads with 19 RBIs and eight home runs. Adding depth, Laurie Cooke's .306 batting average and 12-game hit streak have made their mark.

In the circle, freshman Emily Delgado leads the charge with 78 innings pitched, four complete games, and two shutouts despite a 4.76 ERA. Delaney Baker provides solid support with 48.2 innings pitched and 14 strikeouts. With this formidable lineup and reliable arms, the Thunderbirds are poised for success as the season unfolds.

Utah Utes 

Abby Dayton is at the forefront of the Utah offensive attack, wielding a scorching .474 batting average and a blistering 1.194 OPS. Her bat is a force to be reckoned with, tallying an impressive 46 hits, including five doubles and two triples. Not far behind, Haley Denning patrols the plate with a .452 average and a .972 OPS, delivering 47 crucial hits to the team's cause. Adding a touch of power, Kaylah Nelsen knocks in runs with authority, boasting ten doubles and 22 RBIs. Aliya Belarde offers unwavering consistency with her .306 average, while Karlie Davison and Julia Jimenez contribute crucial on-base percentages and slugging prowess. With a collective batting average of .306 and a combined OPS of .761, the Utah softball squad showcases an offensive arsenal that strikes fear into the hearts of opponents, poised to dominate the competition on the field.

In the pitching circle, the Utes boast a formidable rotation led by Mariah Lopez, who maintains a solid 3.02 ERA and a steady 1.37 WHIP. With a record of 9-7 across 17 starts, Lopez's consistency has been pivotal, tossing seven complete games and securing a shutout win. Not far behind, Sarah Ladd holds her own with a respectable 3.27 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP, tallying seven wins in 11 starts. Brooklyn Carreon showcases her pitching prowess with an impressive 1.83 ERA, albeit in limited appearances. Despite challenges, Taylor Jacobs and Raci Miranda contribute to the team's depth, each battling through their outings. The Utes' pitching staff collectively maintains a 3.41 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP, a testament to their resilience and determination in the circle, which are crucial elements in their quest for victory on the diamond.

UT Arlington Mavericks

The UT Arlington softball team's offensive lineup is led by some standout performers who have put up impressive numbers this season. Camille Corona has been a force at the plate with a stellar .400 batting average, while Lindsey Franklin isn't far behind, hitting .365 and boasting an OPS of 1.027. Kaitlyn Sailor and Nikki Donahue have also made significant contributions, each batting .305. Marley Neises rounds out the top performers with a .295 batting average. Together, these players have fueled the team's success, batting .293 with a combined OPS of .749 across 30 games, showcasing their offensive strength on the diamond.

The leading pitchers for the Mavericks have faced their share of challenges this season, but they've also shown resilience in the circle. Jessica Adams leads the pitching staff with a 3.23 ERA and a WHIP of 1.22, compiling a 4-6 record across 14 appearances, including seven starts. Notably, Adams has secured three shutouts in her seven appearances as a starter, showcasing her ability to dominate opposing hitters. Abi Gutierrez follows with a 5.56 ERA and a WHIP of 1.63, contributing four wins in her 16 appearances, including five starts. While the team's pitching staff has faced adversity, they've demonstrated determination and skill, collectively posting a 5.58 ERA and a WHIP of 1.75 over 68 appearances, with a total of 11 wins.
