CEDAR CITY, Utah - On Thursday, the NCAA announced that six athletes - five male and one female - from the Southern Utah University track & field program will compete in the Western Regional of the 2024 Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Head Coach Eric Houle Said:
"Qualifying for the first round of the NCAA is quite an accomplishment. My hope is that they can perform at the level that got them there so they have a shot at the National Championship!"
The following competitors have earned their opportunity to participate in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships:
1. Jaedyn Carpenter - 400m Dash
2. Dylan Gibson - 400m Dash
3. Travis Feeny - 5k
4. Hayden Harward - 3000m Steeplechase
5. Rebecca Hazelet - Hammer
6. Nelson Douglas - 200m Dash
These athletes earned their way to the top of their respective events through unrelenting hard work and dedication this past season. Some top highlights from the record-breaking season include an 8:39.24 time in the steeplechase for Harward to qualify for the US Olympic Trials and Carpenter rewriting the Southern Utah record book with a 45.94 second time in the 400m dash.
The Thunderbirds will look to continue their incredible season at the Western Regional hosted by the University of Arkansas from Wednesday, May 22 to Saturday, May 25.
