CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University track & field teams will compete in the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships from Thursday, May 9 to Saturday, May 11 hosted by Utah Valley University. The T-Birds will be fighting for conference supremacy as the WAC pre-championship poll picked the men's team to finish third and the women's team to finish fifth.

The meet will be hosted at the Hal Wing Track & Field stadium on UVU's campus in Orem, Utah. Competition will kick off with the men's decathlon on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. MT and will wrap up on Thursday with the men's 1600m Relay at 5:00 p.m. MT. Awards will be presented to the winning athletes at 6:00 p.m. MT.
WAC Pre-Championship Coaches Poll
On Tuesday, the Western Athletic Conference released its Track & Field Pre-Championship Coaches Poll. The Thunderbirds are projected to finish third in the men's poll behind UT Arlington and defending outdoor champion Grand Canyon. At the same time, the women's team was picked to finish fifth behind UTRGV, UT Arlington, host Utah Valley, and Grand Canyon.

SUU In the National Rankings
In the latest DI Men's Outdoor Track & Field Regional Team Rankings, the SUU men's team checked in at 11th place in the Mountain Region. Ahead of in-state rivals Utah Valley and Weber State.
Last Time Out
Two weeks ago, the 'Birds wrapped up the outdoor regular season at the BYU Robison and Payton Jordan Invitationals.
In the 200m at BYU, Dylan Gibson took the top spot with a time of 20.85 seconds, also procuring him the second all-time rank in the Thunderbird record book. Jayden Carpenter was close behind with a 21.08-second finish, putting him in fourth place all-time.
With a throw of 211'3.75", Bronis MacDougall improved his sixth all-time mark in the javelin. This finish also qualifies MacDougall for the Canadian Olympic Qualifying Trials in the event.
The relay team of Gibson, Carpenter, Nelson Douglas, and Noah Bringhurst secured second all-time in the 4x400m with a time of 3:08.44 (3:08.88 converting for altitude), also giving them first in the event.
Gibson, Douglas, Bringhurst, and Cedar English combined for a time of 40.40 seconds (40.52 converting for altitude) in the 4x100m relay. This time gives them the second all-time ranking in SUU history.
With a distance of 15'4.25", Trenton Maurer took fifth in the pole vault, also giving him the sixth-place spot in school history.
Maya Benjamin, Secret Mceuen, Shante Myrie, and Seadra Hamilton impressed in the women's 4x400m relay, snatching a time of 3:44.10 (3:44.54 converting for altitude) and taking the third all-time spot in school history.
In the heptathlon, Melissa Crane finished with 2729 points, good for 11th. Crane also inserted herself into seventh all-time in the pole vault with a jump of 11'1".
With a time of 8:39.24, Hayden Harward placed fifth in the 3000m steeplechase at the Payton Jordan Invitational, ahead of competitors from Weber State, Washington, and Tulsa.
In the 1500m, Travis Feeny finished strong with a fourth-place finish and a time of 3:47.80, only behind athletes from Colorado, UC Santa Cruz, and Northern Arizona.
