Harward Ready to Represent Thunderbirds at Track & Field National Championships

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Following a fantastic performance at the NCAA Western Regionals, Hayden Harward of the Southern Utah University track & field team will compete alongside some of the best athletes around the country in the 3000m steeplechase at the Division I National Championships from Wednesday, June 5 to Saturday, June 8.

Meet Info

Competition will be held at the world-famous Hayward Field on the University of Oregon's campus.

The meet will begin on Wednesday with the men's hammer throw at 3:00 p.m. MT and will wrap up with the women's 4x400m relay on Saturday at 5:50 p.m. MT.

The men's 3000m steeplechase prelims will be on Wednesday at 6:02 p.m. MT. Harward will begin the race at the 10th spot in the second heat and look to crack the top 12 to land him in the events final on Friday at 7:42 p.m. MT.


Last Time Out

Two weeks ago, Harward and many other Thunderbirds participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Western Regional.

Jaedyn Carpenter and Dylan Gibson both posted strong performances in the 400m. With a time of 46.30 seconds, Carpenter finished fourth in his group and 27th overall but fell less than a tenth of a second short of qualifying for Nationals. Gibson took eighth in his group and 43rd overall with a time of 47.33 seconds.

With a time of 21.21 seconds, Nelson Douglas finished the 200m seventh in his group and took 42nd overall.

With a throw of 179'9", Rebecca Hazelet ended the hammer throw in 38th place, ahead of competitors from the University of Oklahoma, the University of California, and USC, but completed her season behind the Nationals qualifying mark of 198'1".

With a time of 8:40.42, Harward impressed in the 3000m steeplechase, taking third in his group and sixth overall. This finish also gave him a qualifying spot in the event at Nationals.

In the 5000m, Travis Feeny finished 21st in his group and 38th overall with a time of 14:40.84, ahead of competitors from BYU and Stanford.
