POCATELLO, IDAHO -- The SUU Women's Soccer team earned a 0-0 tie in Pocatello, Idaho, against the Bengals of Idaho State University. It's the program's first result at Idaho State since 2016.
Head Coach Kai Edwards said
"Today was a competitive match and I'm proud of the team for earning the shutout on the road. Our second shutout in the last three games. The way the team responded when one of our players went down for the game was awesome. You could see the fight for that player."
Game Recap
Both teams fought extremely hard. Each side created quality chances throughout. Whitney Gardner perhaps had the best look of the first half, with a shot sliding past the goalkeeper and barely catching enough of the right post to keep it from going in.
Darya Mosallaei was phenomenal in goal for the Thunderbirds. She pitched her second shutout in the last three games and made quality saves all night. She finished the game with seven saves on 16 shots faced, matching a season-high that she set against Denver last time out.
In the final ten minutes of the game, Sarah Assumma received a beautiful ball from Gardner but was just barely able to put it in the net.
The two teams fought hard, but the defenses won out.
Angie Knies led the Thunderbirds with two shots on goal, and Gardner lead the team with five shots total.
Steph Roper, Rylan Tebbs, Aubrey Murray, Adaleyo Oguntade, and Jenna Grider all played the full game for the Thunderbirds.
