Women's Soccer Eyes Upset At Tarleton State

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Women's Soccer team is heading to Stephenville, Texas, for a match against the Texans of Tarleton State.

Head Coach Kai Edwards said

"We are going into a great atmosphere. They had a great and energetic crowd last year. They are a high energy pressing team. We are ready for the battle."

Matchup History

The Thunderbirds are 2-1 all-time against TSU, with SUU winning the first two contests in 2022 and 2023, but losing a season ago in Stephenville.


The Thunderbirds

SUU battled hard against Utah Tech in the conference opener, falling behind 2-0 in the first half. The T-Birds scored quickly in the second half but couldn't find the equalizing goal. SUU sits with a 1-6-2 record overall and a 0-1-0 record in conference play.

Whitney Gardner and Sarah Assumma earned the assists on the T-Birds' goal, both extending their point totals on the year. Gardner is now up to seven, and Assumma isn't far behind with six.

Kayleigh Acree scored her first goal in a Thunderbirds uniform and now has seven shot attempts on the year, with all seven landing on target.

The team won 46% of their duels, including 50% of aerial duels. The Thunderbirds also completed 67% of their passes and 39% of their passes into the final third.

Jazmyn Brass has yet to sub out of a game this season and has saved 68% of the shots she has faced. Her 43 saves on the year put her in fourth place in the Western Athletic Conference.

Nao Yasuda, Aubrie Labno, and Aubrey Murray continue to be a force defensively for the T-Birds.


The Texans

TSU boasts a 6-4-2 record, but is currently on a two-game losing streak after starting conference play. The Texans lost to Utah Valley 5-0 in the conference opener and then 2-0 to CBU last Sunday.

The Texans have scored 27 goals this year, while allowing only 13.

Stacie Reynolds leads the Texans with an unbelievable 22 points on the year, logging nine goals and four assists. She has 27 shots so far, and 17 have landed on target. Jaycie Bass is second on the team with nine points on three goals and three assists. TSU has seven players with multiple goals scored this year.

Emma Barnes and Mikayla Kendall have both played nine games for the Texans in goal. Barnes has a 4-2-1 record and Kendall a 2-2-1 record.
