CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Women's Soccer team earned a 1-1 result against the Texans of Tarleton State in the final match in Cedar City, Utah this season. SUU closed out home play with an undefeated week after beating ACU 1-0 on Thursday.

Head Coach Kai Edwards said

"Undefeated weekend and only one goal against. They scored a very good goal to tie it.  We have two weekends to go and we are sitting in a playoff spot. This team is playing the best they have played all season. We keep going."

HIGHLIGHTS

Match Recap

The Thunderbirds are certainly playing the best soccer they have all season, forcing a shutout in the first half and only allowing one shot attempt compared to eight shots for the T-Birds in the first 45 minutes.

SUU finally broke the 0-0 tie when Nao Yasuda made a phenomenal move around two Tarleton State defenders and played a ball to the near post, which rebounded off the goalkeeper, and Sarah Assumma was there to finish. With just 15 minutes left to play, the Thunderbirds had a 1-0 lead.

The Texans stayed on the attack, though, despite quality defending from SUU. In the 86th minute, Jaycie Bass played a really good ball into the box, and Avery Harr was able to get her head on it first and find the equalizer.

The Thunderbirds found the back of the net in the 89th minute, but it was ruled offside and no goal.

The Thunderbirds were in control for the majority of the match and came away with a 1-1 tie against the Texans.

Statistical Recap

The Thunderbirds held the Texans to just three total shots and just one shot on goal compared to 14 shots with six on goal for SUU.

SUU also earned three corner kicks and drew 13 fouls.

With her fourth goal of the season, Sarah Assumma now leads the T-Birds with 11 total points on the year. Assumma had four shots and two on target in 84 minutes.

Whitney Gardner also recorded four shots with two on target in her 77 minutes played. Carly Radke came off the bench and was impressive, creating quality scoring chances multiple times and had two shots, with one finishing on target.

Jazmyn Brass only faced three total shots and did not record a save.

Aubrey Murray, Brooklyn Bradley, and Aubrie Labno all played the full 90 minutes.

Up Next

The Thunderbirds will be back in action next week in Orem, Utah, as they take on the Wolverines of Utah Valley on Thursday, October 23, at 6:00 p.m.

SUU currently sits in fourth place in the WAC with seven conference points.
