Thunderbirds Close Out The Regular Season at Utah Tech

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Women's Soccer team will take a short trip south down I-15 to take on in-state rival Utah Tech in the team's final regular season match of the 2025 season. The Thunderbirds control their own fate: win and they advance to the WAC Postseason Tournament.

Who: Southern Utah (3-11-3, 2-6-1) at Utah Tech (7-7-4, 3-4-2)

When: Sunday, November 2, at 6:00 p.m.

The Thunderbirds

SUU currently sits in a tie for fourth place in the Western Athletic Conference standings with Tarleton State. Abilene Christian is just one point behind. The Texans play the No. 1 seed Utah Valley on Sunday, while the Wildcats face CBU. SUU can secure its postseason bid with a win.

The Thunderbirds hosted the Trailblazers back on September 28, with Utah Tech coming away with a 2-1 victory in Cedar City. Kayleigh Acree scored a goal in the 46th minute to cut into the Trailblazer lead, but the T-Birds couldn't net an equalizer.

Sarah Assumma leads the Thunderbirds offensively with 11 points on the year, with four goals and three assists. Whitney Gardner is just behind her with three goals and three assists.

Gardner leads the team in total shots and shots on goal with 43 and 23, respectively. 

Aubrie Labno has been phenomenal defensively for SUU, and she has logged the most minutes of any field player with 1,318.


The Trailblazers

Utah Tech has locked up its spot in the WAC Postseason Tournament with 11 total points on the year. The Trailblazers will be the No. 3 seed in Orem, Utah.

UTU is currently on a two-game losing streak, with a 2-1 loss in Riverside and a 3-0 loss to the Wolverines. The Trailblazers' best result of the year was a 3-3 tie against UVU back on October 9.

Kyah Le leads UTU with 16 total points on the year, Lacy Fox isn't far behind with 13 and Bre Koscielski has 12. Jocelyn Wright leads the team in goals with five on the year.
