Box Score ABILENE, TEXAS -- The SUU Thunderbirds were playing the second match of the Texas road trip and fell to Abilene Christian 4-0 in Abilene.
Head Coach Kai Edwards said
"Tough day at the office today. Credit ACU. We had the chances early to finish off. We will get back to Cedar and look each other in the eyes and be humble workers this coming Thursday."
Match Recap
The two teams exchanged shots on goal for the first 20 minutes of the match, but the Wildcats broke through in the 24th minute after being awarded a penalty kick.
The Thunderbirds created a lot of quality chances, but couldn't get anything into the back of the net. In the 30th minute, the Wildcats were on the counterattack, and Raelin Miller rocketed one past SUU goalkeeper Jazmyn Brass.
The score remained 2-0 until the halftime break.
The Thunderbirds had their eye on a comeback, but Abilene Christian netted two goals in the first three minutes of the second half, and the Thunderbirds just could not get one into the back of the net.Â
SUU falls to 2-7-2 on the year and 1-2-0 in WAC play.
Statistical Recap
Avery Kyle led the team, with all four of her shot attempts landing on target; both statistics were team highs. Sarah Assumma, Whitney Gardner, and Kayleigh Acree all added three more shot attempts.
The T-Birds set a new season-high with 18 total shots; they also earned eight corners and drew 12 fouls.
For the first time all year, Jamzyn Brass subbed out of the game and was replaced by Esme Barnes. Barnes recorded four saves, all in the second half.
Aubrie Labno led all Thunderbirds with 87 minutes played.
