CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Women's Soccer team is coming off a 1-1 road trip in Texas, and will host the reigning WAC Tournament champions, California Baptist, on Thursday, October 9, at 1:00 p.m.

Head Coach Kai Edwards said

"We'll set the team up in a system and style of play that gives us the best chance to get points this weekend. Cal Baptist and UVU  are quality opponents, but we're focused on executing our plan, competing with confidence, and putting ourselves in position to get a result."

The Thunderbirds

SUU earned a big 2-0 win over Tarleton State last week, and improved its conference record to 1-2-0. SUU's offensive leaders, Whitney Gardner and Sarah Assumma, came up big once again, each scoring a goal in the 2-0 victory.

Gardner and Assumma are now tied for the lead in total points this season, each recording three assists and three goals.

According to Wysports, the statistical database most commonly used by the NCAA to track team statistics, the Thunderbirds have been stellar in their last four matches. Outshooting three of their four opponents, winning the dual percentage against three of their four opponents, and winning the aerial duals against all four opponents. 

The T-Birds have recorded double-digit shot attempts in three of their last four games, and had 10 shots on goal in the loss at ACU.

A Look at the Lancers

CBU is 6-6-1 on the year and 2-1-0 in conference play. The Lancers suffered a big loss last time out at Utah Valley after scoring the first goal of the game; they then gave up seven straight goals.

CBU won the WAC Tournament a year ago and was picked to finish second in the preseason poll this year.

Ava Westlund leads the team with 14 points on the year, scoring six goals and recording two assists. Kaylee Hauck is second on the team with six points on the year, coming off two goals and two assists.

Mikayla O'Brien has started 11 games in goal for the Lancers, recording 52 saves on the year, including four shutouts.
