Box Score 2 FRESNO, California — The Thunderbirds opened the Fresno State tournament with challenging back-to-back games against the University of California and CSU Bakersfield. Cal took the opener 8-0 but the Thunderbirds bounced back in the afternoon, beating the Roadrunners 1-0.
Freshman Michaella Salvatierra led the Thunderbirds in hits with three on the day. Ariyana Miranda scored the lone RBI for the Thunderbirds on a big double in the fifth inning of game two. Sophomore Kassidy Munoz also picked up multiple hits with two singles against the Roadrunners.
In the circle Keimon Winston pitched a gem. Winston posted six shutout innings, surrendering five hits and striking out four to earn the win. Sophomore Emily Delgado cleaned up the seventh inning to earn the save.

Game Summary vs. Cal
The Thunderbirds had early opportunities but struggled to bring runners home, leaving multiple players stranded on base.
Cal took control in the first inning with an RBI triple and extended their lead with a solo homer in the second.
In the fifth inning, Butler blasted a two-run homer, followed by a bases-clearing double from Phillips to cap off a five-run inning and end the game 8-0 in favor of the Bears.
Game Summary vs. CSU Bakersfield
The Thunderbirds won a defensive battle in game two of the day. The two teams had opportunities in the game with each squad stranding a handful of runners early.
The Thunderbirds finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning when Laurie Cooke singled to centerfield. Cooke showed incredible speed two batters later when Ariyana Miranda blasted a double to left field, scoring her from first.
Keimon Winston dominated the game by controlling the outcome from the beginning in the circle. Delgado replaced Winston at the top of the seventh, allowing one hit but ultimately earning the save.
On Deck
The T-Birds will return to the diamond tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. MT to face the Roadrunners for the second time before facing the host from Fresno State. Southern Utah will wrap up the tournament with a second matchup against Cal on Sunday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m. MT.
