Women's Golf Prepared To Compete At WAC Championship Tournament in Phoenix

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Women's Golf team is headed to Phoenix, Arizona, to compete in the Western Athletic Conference Championship at the Wigwam Golf Course on April 14-16.

Head Coach Caylyn Ponich said

They've earned this moment, they have all earned their spot in the lineup, and I can't wait to see them compete."

SUU will be paired with UT Arlington and Utah Valley and will tee off on Monday, starting at 9:40 a.m.

The Thunderbirds were able to play the Wigwam Golf Club back in February and got some quality experience at the Championship course. Luangnam led the Thunderbirds, finishing at +15 through three rounds at the Wigwam Golf Club. Ellie Olsen had the best round of the tournament for SUU, shooting an even-par 72 for the Thunderbirds in the final round.

SUU competed in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic last time out and was led again by Luangnam, who fired a final round of two under par 70, including seven birdies, which propelled her to a 31st-place finish.

Anais Guibal used a second-round 79 to help her to a 77th-place finish, and Olsen had back-to-back rounds of 81, which led to a T78 finish.

The championship format is slightly different from regular-season golf. There are still five players competing, and the best four scores are added to the team score, but Head Coach Ponich will have the opportunity to sub an individual into the lineup should she choose to do so.
