Cedar City, Utah—The Thunderbirds head to California this week to compete at the prestigious Bryan Clay Invitational, where they will face off against some of the best athletes in the country.
Head Coach Eric Houle Said:
"This is one of the best meets in the country. Well over 120 teams and 2,000 athletes will compete in two days of competition. It'll bring in some of the best teams and athletes nationwide. It's an excellent opportunity for our athletes here at SUU to elevate their performance and gain confidence while competing in this type of competitive atmosphere."

Men's Last Time Out & Preview
Last time out at the Utah Spring Classic, the Thunderbirds only had one competitor. Jackson Roybal finished fifth in the javelin throw with a top throw of 172'08".
Jaedyn Carpenter, who has had a phenomenal season for the T-Birds, will look to continue his tremendous season by competing in the 400-meter and 200-meter dashes. Santiago Gaitan, who has had some impressive finishes in the outdoor season, will be competing in the 10000-meter run, 1500-meter run, and 5000-meter run.
Logan Peel, who finished first in the 1500-meter run at the UNLV Rebels ELITE, will also compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational in the 5000-meter and 1500-meter runs.
Women's Last Time out & Preview
Jaylee Gandert was one of two first-place finishes for the women's team last weekend. Jaylee finished first in the javelin throw with a top throw of 150'08". Savannah Nielson had the other first-place finish for the T-Birds in the Heptathlon 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.47. They will both be in action this week, with Jaylee Gandert competing in the discus throw and shot put and Savannah Nielson competing in the 100-meter hurdles.
Melissa Crane had two second-place finishes in the Heptathlon last week. First in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.50, and second in the high jump with a top leap of 5'3.75".
Bella Evans and Malayna Steffensen also had a pair of second-place finishes. Bella finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.76, while Malayna finished second in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:42.12. Both will be competing this week, with Bella competing in the 5000-meter and 1500-meter runs and Malayna in the 5000-meter run.
