Orchid Luangnam Shines For The Thunderbirds In WAC Championship Tournament

PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- The SUU Women's Golf team was led by Siriporn (Orchid) Luangnam who fired an unbelievable final round three-under-par 69 to catapult into a fourth place finish at +1 for the tournament.

Head Coach Caylyn Ponich said

"On the final day of the season, we showed exactly who we are. We are a team that never backs down. With one of our best rounds of the spring, we fought to the finish. Orchid's solo 4th place as a freshman is just the beginning, and our three incredible seniors leave behind a legacy of growth and heart that I hope we'll carry forward. What a way to close the chapter. "

The Thunderbirds

The Thunderbirds opened the tournament with back to back rounds of 315 on days one and two, but fired a final round 302 to finish at +68 as a team.

Luangnam was phenomenal all tournament. Opening with a one-over 73 and was just two shots off the lead after the first day. A 75 in round two left Orchid just outside the top-ten heading into the final day, but a final round 69 that included five birdies and an eagle leapfrogged Luangnam nine places and she ultimately finished fourth overall in the tournament.

Anais Guibal also had a quality tournament. Turning in rounds of 75, 77, and 74 that helped push her to a T19 finish, a six spot improvement in the final round.

Tijana Jovicevic Kovacic finished 37th at +26. Ellie Olsen competed in rounds one and two and shot 88 and 90. Reece Bandemer competed in rounds one and three and turned in an 87, and closed with a quality 79 in the final round. Kirsten Hall competed in rounds two and three for the Thunderbirds and shot 82 and 80.
