CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- Southern Utah's Siriporn Orchid Luangnam has been given a sponsor's exemption to participate in The Copper Rock Championship. The event is part of the EPSON Tour, commonly called "the road to the LPGA". Luangnam received an exemption along with Utah Valley's Chloe Jang, and Utah Tech's Samantha Phelan.
The Copper Rock Championship will be held from May 15 to 17 at The Copper Rock Golf Course in Hurricane, Utah.
Head Coach Caylyn Ponich said
"The Copper Rock Championship is an incredible opportunity, not just for Orchid, but for SUU Women's golf to showcase the level of talent we have on our team. Orchid has the opportunity to step onto the course with the pros this week, proving that SUU athletes can compete at the highest level. Her journey is a testament to the dedication, grit, and potential that runs deep in our program. I am very excited for Orchid and I can't wait to watch her compete this week."
The Epson Tour is the Official Qualifying Tour of the LPGA and is also known as the "Road to the LPGA." Since 1999, the mission of the Epson Tour has been to prepare the world's best young women professional golfers for a successful career on the LPGA Tour. A schedule of 20+ events worth more than $3 million in prize money provides the backdrop for developing these players into the LPGA Tour's next generation of stars.
The Tour includes players from some 30 countries.
Luangnam is just a freshman and is coming off the best of her young career. After firing a final round 69 at the WAC Championship Tournament, she finished solo fourth at +2 for the tournament.
Orchid finished the year leading the team in stroke average, at 75.4, which includes five rounds of even par or better.
Luangnam said
"I am very excited to play in the Copper Rock Championship. I am grateful that Coach Ponich believed in me and gave me this opportunity to play in a professional event."
