Men's team Standout Star Jaedyn Carpenter will be representing the Thunderbirds in the 400-meter dash at the NCAA West First Round. Jaedyn broke the men's Outdoor Track record in the 400-meter earlier in the season at the SUU Coliseum Championship with a time of 45.59. Jaedyn has been at the top of almost every 400-meter dash this Outdoor season, and he hopes to continue that streak this week.Â
Santiago Gaitan has been great for the men's team this year, and he will represent the Thunderbirds in the mile run this week. Santiago's best run came at the BYU Robinson Invitational, where he finished with a time of 4:03.08, which is good for fourth all-time in the men's Outdoor Track record book. Santiago will look to replicate that performance this week.Â
Jaylee Gandert has been one of the most outstanding athletes not just on the women's team, but across the entire track and field team. Jaylee will have the honor of representing the Thunderbirds at the NCAA West First Round in the javelin throw. Jaylee's top throw this year in the javelin came at the SUU Coliseum Championships when she had a top throw of 145'5.0", which is fourth all time in the women's Outdoor Field record book. Jaylee will look to have some more impressive throws this week.Â
Ajia Hughes has been the MVP for the Track and Field team for the outdoor season. She has broken the women's Outdoor Field record in the high jump three times this season, and she did it twice in two days. Ajia also earned the honors of WAC Outdoor Championships Women's top field athlete, where Ajia was crowned a WAC Champion as she came in first place with her best jump of the season, 6'0", which is also a women's Outdoor Field record. Ajia hopes to continue her MVP-type season this week.Â
