The Thunderbirds
SUU is poised to have a quality final year in the Western Athletic Conference with newcomers like Avery Kyle, Bridget Guevara, and Regan Doty ready to make an immediate impact alongside the Thunderbird veterans like Aubrey Murray, Whitney Gardner, and Addison Larsen.
Murray has been phenomenal for SUU for three seasons and was just named to the Preseason All-WAC team.
Jazmyn Brass will likely start in net for the Thunderbirds. After playing four years at Boise State, Brass is looking to make her fifth and final year her best season yet.
The Thunderbirds are bonded by hard work and discipline, and will need a lot of both in order to start the season with two victories.
The Grizzlies
The Montana soccer program has won the last two Big Sky Conference regular-season championships, going unbeaten in league play in 2023 and '24, and the Big Sky coaches expect more of the same from the Grizzlies this fall.
Montana picked up six of nine first-place votes and topped this year's Big Sky preseason poll, the league office announced. It's the second consecutive year the Grizzlies have topped the poll, the eighth time overall.
The Grizzlies had four of the 12 players on the first-ever Preseason All-Big Sky team, with midfielders Maddie Ditta and Chloe Seelhoff, defender Ally Henrikson and goalkeeper Bayliss Flynn being recognized.
The Grizzlies were undefeated at home a season ago.Â
The Eagles
Eastern Washington has been picked to finish second in the Big Sky, after a third-place finish a season ago. The team returns 17 players, including eight starters, and welcomes 12 newcomers.
Senior Chloe Pattison returns for her final season after earning Big Sky Co-Offensive MVP honors last year. She was also named the conference's preseason MVP and is the only Eagle selected to the Preseason All-Conference Team. Last season, Pattison led both the team and the conference with 11 goals—four more than the next closest scorer.
EWU Head Coach Missy Strasburg, a former assistant under SUU Head Coach Kai Edwards, has had a successful run with the Eagles. Strasburg enters her fifth season at the helm of the Eagles. She was named Big Sky Coach of the Year last season after leading the Eagles from an eighth-place preseason ranking to a third-place conference finish.
