Men's Golf Look to Keep It Rolling in 56th Annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Men's Golf team is coming off a ninth-place finish at the Bluejay Invitational just four days before the first round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the Eisenhower Golf Course hosted by Air Force.

Head Coach Richard Church said

"It's a quick turnaround from our first tournament of the season, but I think the team is ready to come out and compete and build off a positive final round in Omaha. Eisenhower is a tough golf course and is always a good challenge. If we can eliminate the big numbers, we can compete."

Last time out, the Thunderbirds combined for 36 birdies and three eagles at the Bluejay Invitational, showing their ability to score on a challenging Shadow Ridge layout. With multiple under-par rounds and steady improvement throughout the tournament, SUU looks to carry this momentum to GMFI.

Freshman Uy Doan led the way for the Thunderbirds with three straight rounds of even-par or better, posting scores of 72, 70, and 70 to finish at -4 for the tournament, good enough for solo ninth. He carded nine birdies and an eagle across the tournament, highlighted by a birdie and an eagle in his final round.

Sophomore Jing-Cheng (Jarell) Wang also delivered a strong performance, recording rounds of 71, 75, and 70 to close at even-par in a tie for 20th, while picking up an impressive 10 birdies along the way. Wang made six birdies in the opening round, including four in a row on the back nine.

Braylon Bingham contributed rounds of 79, 74, and 74 to finish at +11 in a tie for 55th, notching seven birdies through three rounds. Charlie Gillespie tallied rounds of 77, 74, and 75 for a +10 and a T53 finish, highlighted by six birdies and an eagle.

Sophomore Sky Moon and Junior Luke Barnes will be making their season debuts.
