STOCKTON, Calif. - Michael Stirland carded a one-over 73 to lead Southern Utah men's golf during Tuesday's second round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
The Thunderbirds improved their team score by eight strokes from Monday's opening round, posting an 11-over 299 after beginning the tournament with a 19-over 307. Southern Utah sits 17th at 30-over 606 (307-299) entering Wednesday's final round.
Braylon Bingham leads the Thunderbirds through 36 holes at six-over 150 (76-74), tied for 61st, while Stirland's 73 represented SUU's lowest round of the tournament thus far.
Head Coach Richard Church said:
"We saw some improvement today, and that is something we can build on. Michael did a nice job putting together a solid round, and I thought we had some good individual stretches throughout the lineup. We know we are capable of playing better golf, and the important thing is continuing to compete and staying focused on the things we can control. We have another opportunity tomorrow to put together a good team round and finish this tournament the right way."
