BACK IN THE BIG SKY

The conversation comes in SUU's first year back in the Big Sky. Southern Utah officially joined the Big Sky Conference on July 1, 2026, growing the league's full-time membership to 11 universities for the 2026-27 academic year. SUU was previously part of the Big Sky from 2012-22 and won nine conference championships in its 10 seasons as a member.

ABOUT THE HOST

Williams is in his fourth season on head coach Rob Jeter's staff after joining the Thunderbirds in May 2023. He brings more than 20 years of coaching experience, including 10 years at the Division I level. He began his coaching career in the Bay Area in 1998 with the Oakland Soldiers and at San Leandro High School. He then spent two stints at San Jose State, first from 2002-04 and then from 2005-13 as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator under George Nessman. Before coming to Cedar City, he was an assistant coach at the College of Southern Nevada.

ABOUT THE GUEST

Gutting is also in his fourth season on Jeter's staff. He came to Southern Utah from Casper College, where he was the head coach for four years. In his first year as head coach, he went 32-3, won the Region IX championship and reached the NJCAA Championship tournament. He finished his head coaching career with a record of 83-35.

Before Casper, Gutting was an assistant coach at New Mexico Junior College, where the program went 106-54 and made three regional tournaments and one national tournament in his five seasons.
