CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- SUU true freshman point guard Elijah Duval has earned his second Western Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week honors in the last three weeks after leading the Thunderbirds to a 1-1 performance last week.
Head Coach Rob Jeter said
"I am super proud of Elijah. He is an incredibly talented player and just wants to win. To see the way he has grown as a point guard and the way he leads this team now has been special. He is very deserving of the recognition he has been getting."
The Thunderbirds hosted top-ranked California Baptist last week and were led by Duval, who poured in 14 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished four assists in a tough loss.
After playing in Cedar City on Thursday night, SUU hopped on a plane Friday morning and were ready to take on UT Arlington Saturday afternoon in another tough conference matchup.
Elijah led all scorers in the game with 20 points on an incredibly efficient 7-12 from the field, 2-3 from deep, and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe. He also corralled two rebounds and dished out three helpers to lead the Thunderbirds to their second-straight road victory.
Across the two games, Duval averaged 16 points, four rebounds, and 3.5 assists. His shooting splits were 48/42/68 percent.
He now leads the team in points per game, averaging 14 per contest, in assists (91), and steals (28).
