CEDAR CITY, Utah - Junior Brooklyn Fely of the Southern Utah women's basketball team earned her third Western Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week award thanks to a very successful week.
In her best game of the year on Saturday, she buoyed the Thunderbirds to a 71-68 win over the rolling Abilene Christian Wildcats. The Umpqua Community College transfer also played a key role in Thursday's 77-68 win over UT Arlington.
Head Coach Tracy Mason Said:
"Brooklyn had more really strong showings this week. The plays she made against Abilene Christian were huge, and she had a very solid game against UTA. She keeps putting in the work, and she's so deserving of this award."
Fely's high-quality performances this week guided her team to critical wins. She averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 2.5 assists, and shot at a fantastic 58.3% rate from the field.
In Thursday's win over the Mavericks, Fely's well-rounded performance included 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Meanwhile, her monster Saturday afternoon game garnered a career high double-double of 26 points and 17 rebounds. As if that wasn't enough, she did it on 62.5% shooting from the field and chipped in a block and steal on the defensive end.
