CEDAR CITY, Utah - Junior Ava Uhrich received her third Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week award thanks to a pair of 20-point double-doubles that guided the Southern Utah women's basketball team to two critical victories. Uhrich's recognition as WAC Player of the Week marks the sixth time a Southern Utah player has won the award this season — more than any other team in the conference.
Head Coach Tracy Mason Said:
"Ava was a huge part of our wins last week, and her energy really fuels this team. She continues to step up and rise to the occasion, and she totally deserves this recognition."
In Southern Utah's final two home games, Uhrich put on a show for her fans. In addition to leading the Thunderbirds to wins over two of the WAC's top four teams, she averaged 11.5 rebounds and 25 points while shooting 60.6% from the field. She also totalled only two turnovers in the two-game span.
Uhrich's matchup against Tarleton State included 24 points and 10 rebounds. She also moved the ball with great success, dishing a career-high-tying six assists.
Sunday's game proved to be one of the best of Uhrich's 2025-2026 campaign. She poured in 26 points and brought down 13 boards against Abilene Christian, whose defense ranks at the top of the WAC. With three steals and two blocks, she was just as influential on the defensive side of the ball.
