CEDAR CITY, Utah - Junior Brooklyn Fely of the Southern Utah women's basketball team earned her fourth Western Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week award thanks to a dominant week that included a career-high night against the WAC's top team.
Fely has now won the Newcomer of the Week award in three of the last four weeks, and is shaping up to be a huge factor for the Thunderbirds' success down the conference stretch.
Head Coach Tracy Mason Said:
"I'm so proud of the way Brooklyn's been playing. She had an incredible game last Thursday that helped us knock off CBU, and she made some important plays in the game against UTA. She's super competitive and hardworking in practice, and I'm glad that's shining through in games."
Once again, Fely played an integral part in impactful team wins. She averaged 24 points and 12 rebounds, and jumped to nine double-doubles on the year (second in the WAC). She also did so while shooting at a spectacular 72% rate from the field.
A monster 31-point game against California Baptist buoyed Southern Utah to a massive 85-70 victory over a team that had only lost one of 11 conference games. However, her influence in the paint defensively cannot be understated. She racked up 13 boards, outrebounding the Lancers' Filipa Barros — one of only two players averaging more than 10 rebounds per conference game.
Fely followed it with strong play on Saturday against the Mavericks, contributing 17 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists. She shot 75% from the field, marking one of the most accurate nights of her SUU career.
