Thunderbirds Conclude Season With Seventh Place Finish at WAC Championships

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Men's Golf team closed out the 2025-26 season with a seventh-place finish at the Western Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at the Stonebridge Ranch CC in McKinney, Texas. 

Head Coach Richard Church said

"That is a frustrating way to close out the year, but I am proud of our team and the way that we battled all year long. We showed how talented we are, and that we are more than capable of competing in these tournaments."

The Thunderbirds

Southern Utah Men's Golf closed out its season at the 2026 WAC Men's Golf Championship in McKinney, Texas, finishing seventh overall with rounds of 303, 307, and 305 for a three-round total of 915 at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.

The Thunderbirds were led by Charlie Gillespie, who finished 19th overall with a three-round total of 226 (+10). Gillespie opened with a 77 (+5) and a 79 (+7) before closing strong with a 70 (-2), the lowest round of the tournament for Southern Utah.

Uy Doan followed closely behind, finishing 20th at 228 (+12) after posting rounds of 75, 76, and 77.

Braylon Bingham added a 231 (+15) for the Thunderbirds with rounds of 73, 78, and 80, while Jing-Cheng (Jarell) Wang finished at 232 (+16) after carding scores of 78, 76, and 78.

Sky Moon rounded out the lineup for Southern Utah, finishing with a three-round total of 241 (+25) after rounds of 82, 77, and 82.

Southern Utah competed against a strong conference field in the final event of the season, with Tarleton State capturing the team title. The Thunderbirds showed flashes throughout the championship, highlighted by Gillespie's final-round push, as they wrap up their 2026 campaign.

The Thunderbirds made 27 birdies and two eagles through the 54-hole tournament, and were third in the entire field with 152 pars.

Wang led the T-Birds with seven birdies, and was followed closely by Moon, who had six. Bingham cashed in both eagles for the Thunderbirds, and Gillespie led the entire field with 37 pars.
