Southern Utah Soccer Heads to the Hornets for Fifth Straight Road Contest

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Soccer team is set to head to Sacramento for their fifth straight road match to start the 2026 season. The Thunderbirds are currently 2-2 on the year and will battle the Hornets of Sacramento State on Thursday.

Head Coach Steven Lindquist said

"We are excited for another quality opponent this week. Sacramento State is a well coached team that has gotten results all year, we will need to execute our game plan to have success but are prepared!"

The Thunderbirds

Southern Utah is coming off a 3-0 loss at the University of Utah, in a match delayed for over 2 1/2 hours and ultimately played only until the 84th minute due to another lightning strike.

The T-Birds held their own for the first 30 minutes of the match, before an unlucky bounce caromed over the head of freshman goalkeeper Tatum Trout. 

SUU has scored three goals this season, with freshman Gracen Blieschke leading the way with a goal and an assist on the year. Kayleigh Acree and Sophia Memory are the other goal scorers.

Trout has earned the starting role between the posts. Accumulating 12 saves through the four matches.


The Hornets

Sac State remains unbeaten this year. Boasting a 3-0-1 record and ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches Division I West Region poll.

The Hornets have outscored their opponents 9-4 through four matches and have six different goal scorers.

Ellie Farber and Mia Jackson lead the team with two goals apiece.
