US AIR FORCE, Colo. - The Southern Utah men's golf team opened up the 2026 edition of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational with a 12-over 300 round one to stand 16th overall heading into the second day of competition. Colorado and Utah Valley lead the way with eight-over 280s with two days left.
Head Coach Richard Church said:
"We collected our fair share of birdies throughout the day, with Charlie and Michael leading the way for us at even-par. Both are currently inside the top 30 and have put themselves in a good position to make a move over the next two days. For us, it's about staying focused on the next round, cleaning up a few things and continuing to improve as the tournament progresses."
The Thunderbirds
Charlie Gillespie and Michael Stirland stand tied for 29th overall with matching even-par 72s. Gillespie picked up six birdies, while Stirland snared four of his own. Gillespie had a particularly strong run with a trio of birdies in a row on holes 10, 11 and 12.
Braylon Bingham and Jing-Cheng (Jarell) Wang are tied at 76th overall heading into the second round at six-over 78s The duo joined Gillespie and Stirland as all four Thunderbirds birdied hole 16.
Meanwhile, David (Charles) Serdenia closed out the top five for SUU with an 89th-place tie after posting an 11-over 83.
Luke Barnes is tied for 19th with a three-over 75 in the individual draw.
