BOZEMAN, Mont. - Saylar May caught fire during the second round of the Yellowstone Intercollegiate, firing a three-under 69 to surge into fourth place and lead the Southern Utah women's golf team through the opening 36 holes at Riverside Country Club.

May sits at one-over 145 (76-69) heading into the final round after shaving seven strokes off her opening-round score. Her performance helped the Thunderbirds improve by five strokes in relation to par from the opening round as SUU finished the day in sixth place at 27-over 603 (304-299).

The Thunderbirds opened the tournament at 16-over before responding with an 11-over effort during the second round. SUU enters the final 18 holes just one stroke behind fifth-place North Dakota and five behind fourth-place California Baptist.

Head Coach Caylyn McKinlay said

"We showed some good grit in the second round, and I was proud of the way we continued to compete and battle through the day. We made some improvements from the first round, but we also know there is still a lot more fight in this team. We have to continue to trust ourselves, stay committed to our process, and take advantage of the opportunities in front of us. It's always good to see improvement, and we are excited to come back tomorrow, stay patient, take it one shot at a time, and hopefully make some positive movement up the leaderboard."

The Thunderbirds

Saylar May provided the fireworks for Southern Utah, vaulting into fourth place at one-over 145 (76-69) following a tremendous three-under second round.

May did well early with birdies on the second, seventh and eighth holes to make the turn at one-under 35. She kept rolling on the back nine, adding birdies on holes 10, 15 and 16 to come home in two-under 34 and finish with six birdies during her second round. May's 69 represented a seven-shot improvement from her opening-round 76.

Siriporn (Orchid) Luangnam finished the opening day tied for 15th at six-over 150 (74-76). Luangnam paced the Thunderbirds with a two-over 74 during the opening round before adding a 76 in round two. She collected four birdies across the opening 36 holes, including two during each round.

Jaden Johnson provided a steady presence in the lineup, posting matching four-over 76s to finish the day tied for 26th at eight-over 152. Johnson highlighted her opening round with birdies on holes 12 and 14 before adding another on the 16th during round two.

Rosalie Langlois made a significant move in the right direction during the afternoon round, improving by five strokes with a six-over 78. Langlois finished the day tied for 56th at 17-over 161 (83-78), with her second round highlighted by a birdie on the par-three 16th.

Ellie Schoeffler rounded out the Thunderbirds lineup at 19-over 163 (78-85), tied for 61st. Schoeffler's best stretch came during her opening round, when she made the turn at one-over 37 after recording a birdie on the par-three eighth.

Competing as an individual, Kirsten Hall finished the opening day at 16-over following rounds of 79 and 81. Hall closed her second round with a one-over 38 on the back nine, highlighted by a birdie on the 13th hole.
