POCATELLO, Idaho - Feb. 27 - Southern Utah track and field entered the Big Sky Indoor Championship with performances in the heptathlon and pentathlon by Shaye Maurer-Springall, Alex Anderson and Eric Durrant.

Maurer-Springall placed second overall in the pentathlon with an all-time best SUU score of 3929. She led the field of 16 athletes in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing first with another school record time of 8.25. She also placed second in the 800-meters (2:22.76*), third in the shot put (38-7.75), fourth in the high jump (5-3.75) and seventh in the in the long jump (17-7).

At the conclusion of the four heptathlon events contested on Thursday, Anderson ranks fifth with 2782 points while Durrant ranks seventh with 2662. Anderson posted a fourth-best SUU record mark of 22-8 with a third-place finish in the long jump. He also raced to a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.14, tied for sixth in the high jump (5-10.75) and placed 12th in the shot put (34-10.25). Durrant placed fifth in the shot put (40-8.25), seventh in the long jump (20-10), tied for eighth in the high jump (5-9.75) and finished ninth in the 60-meters (7.36).

The rest of the men's heptathlon events will take place on Friday, while the main jumps, sprints, throws and distance events also get underway. The championship will wrap up on Saturday.
