FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. --- The Thunderbirds will not stop setting records this track and field season. On Friday the team traveled to Flagstaff, Arizona to compete at NAU in the Lumberjack Team Challenge. They left with a number of top ten marks in the SUU record book and a pair of athletes surging to the top of the NCAA in their respective events.
Men's Team
On the men's side of the team, Tre James broke his own record for the second week in a row in the 60-meter. He placed first at the meet and again in school records with a converted time of 6.64. James is also now ranked fifth best amongst NCAA athletes in the 60-meter.
James also broke another record for the school in the 200-meter. Placing first in this event as well, James finished the race with a converted time of 21.27.
Two other top ten marks were set for the men's 60-meter. Frank Harris III placed fifth in the record book with a converted time of 6.89. This time also place him third at the meet. Justin Lewis also broke through now sitting seventh in the record book with a converted time of 6.92, also placing him in fourth place at the meet.
On the distance side, Kasey Knevelbaard was able to finish first in the meet with a converted time of 4:00.40Â in the mile, which puts him third all-time in the SUU record book behind only Cam Levins and Mike Tate. Knevelbaard also placed first in the 3,000 meter with a time of 8:44.03. As of tonight that puts Knevelbaard second in the entire NCAA in the event.
Women's Team
The women's team was successful as well. Angie Nickerson came off a redshirt year to compete for the Thunderbirds this weekend. She was able to place third in the mile with an unconverted time of 5:09.41.
Several other women were beneficial for the Thunderbirds. Sinclair Watson lead the Thunderbirds in the 60-meter dash with a converted time of 7.77. Watson was followed closely by Bobbi Parker with a time of 7.86.
In the 200-meter, Watson finished third in the race with an unconverted time of 24.83, followed closely by Mia Russell at 24.84 unconverted.
In the field, Ogochukwu Nwachukwu showed strength as she placed fourth both in the meet and in the SUU record book. Nwachukwu competed in the women's weight throw and finished with a mark of 54' 3 ¼".
