Southern Utah Hosts Spring Volleyball Tournament

CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Southern Utah volleyball program hosted a Spring Tournament on Saturday, getting their first taste of action under newly appointed head coach Pete Hoyer.

In the first game of the weekend, Southern Utah played Dixie State where the Thunderbirds beat the Trailblazers in the first set, and lost the next two. Dixie State played again, taking down the SLCC Bears.

The last match of the weekend was the T-Birds and the Bears. Southern Utah found an upbeat tempo and stayed with it, defeating SLCC three sets to none.

Coming out with a young team — eight of which are 18 years old — the Thunderbirds are energetic and looking ahead to the next spring games.

Words From Coach Hoyer

After the two games, head coach Pete Hoyer commented, "I think we did very well on the things we've worked on. There are so many aspects of the game of volleyball and we've only had three weeks of practice, so we have dialed in on a couple of very specific things like serve receive and a little bit offensively, and those things went very well. There are other things we haven't spent much time on, but spring ball, especially taking over a team with this many young players, we have got to be processed oriented. We are happy with where we are at."

Coming Up Next

The next spring season game will be in Orem against Utah Valley University on April 7. Time to be determined.
