CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah and Northern Arizona football teams have announced a 12-game series that will continue the Grand Canyon Rivalry long after the Thunderbirds leave the Big Sky Conference to join the Western Athletic Conference following the 2022 season.
The first game of the series is set to take place on September 9, 2028 in Flagstaff. The two teams will then face off against one another every season after that until 2039. The Thunderbirds will host in 2029, 2031, 2033, 2035, 2037, and 2039 and they will travel to Flagstaff in 2028, 2030, 2032, 2034, 2036, and 2038. Each team will get to host six games in the series.
Southern Utah and Northern Arizona have played each other in every season since 2008, including two games last season. Both teams have won seven games apiece during that time.
The two teams will meet up on October 16 in Flagstaff and it will be the final meeting between the teams before this series begins in 2028.

The Thunderbirds will open the 2021 season on CBS Sports Network when they take on San Jose State on August 28. They will then take on Arizona State on the Pac-12 Network on September 2.
