CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah Thunderbirds will take part in the 2022 Red Rocks Invitational this weekend, hosted by the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks. The two day, three round event kicks off on Saturday with a shotgun start at 8:15 AM with continual play into round two. Round three will commence on Sunday with another shotgun start at 8:15 AM.
THE COURSE
The Red Rock Invitational will be hosted at the Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Arizona. Each round will feature 6,170 yards of Par 72 action. The course has a traditional mid-western layout with slightly elevated greens, swirling green bunkers, and tree lined doglegs throughout the country club. Three lakes occupy the course coming into play on the front nine holes 4, 6, and 7, and on the back nine on holes 10 and 18.

THE FIELD
Along with host Northern Arizona, the Thunderbirds will compete against six other Big Sky foes. The Idaho Vandals, Montana Grizzlies, Montana State Bobcats, Northern Colorado Bears, Portland State Vikings, and Weber State Wildcats will compete against each other.
SUU will also face off with two other Utah teams in Dixie State and Utah Valley.
California Baptist, Delaware, Grand Canyon, Illinois State, Longwood, North Dakota State, Stephen F. Austin, Towson, and Wichita State will round out the field of 19 teams.
THUNDERBIRD GOLFERS
After being named Big Sky Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for a record setting 12th time, Chanikan (Pluem) Yongyuan makes the trip to Sedona looking to repeat her 2019 performance at the tournament where she was named the individual champion with a six-under-par event.
Four Thunderbirds will join Yongyuan at the tournament including Tori Thomas, Tanyatorn (Excel) Thalangkarn, Anais Guibal, and Elizabeth Hair.
LAST TIME OUT
Yongyuan is also coming off an individual championship at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational last week where she shot one over par to finish with a 217 score.
Thomas also finished inside the top-20 with a 12-over par score to garner 17th place.
Thalangkarn and Guibal also finished inside the top-50 with a 19-over-par and 20-over-par scores, respectively.
The Thunderbirds finished in sixth place as a team with a 45-over-par 909 mark.
