Thunderbirds In Phoenix For GCU Invitational

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Women's Golf team will head to Phoenix for the Grand Canyon Invitational on Tuesday, Feb 27, and Wednesday, Feb 28.

The Format
It will be a 54-hole tournament, with each team playing 36 holes on day one and 18 holes on day two.

A shotgun start at 8 a.m. on each day.

Live scoring will be available on GolfGenius.

The Course
The GCU Golf Course is a par 72 that will play 6,155 yards on the first day and 6,126 yards on the second and final day.

The Field
Grand Canyon, Oral Roberts, Idaho, Tarleton State, Southern Utah, Seattle U, Houston Christian, Northern Colorado, Northern Arizona, Seton Hall, Long Beach State, Montana State, UC Riverside, North Dakota, Eastern Washington, Marshall, New Mexico State, UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, UTEP and North Dakota State.

ULM won the event a season ago, with GCU's Lani Luafalealo taking medalist after winning a three-way playoff.

The Thunderbirds
With a slight tweak to the lineup from the opening tournament, Tanyatorn Excel Thalangkarn will play as the No. 1, coming off a T3 finish at the Trailblazer Invitational.

Tijana Jovicevic Kovacic will hold down the No. 2 spot after she finished 10th at the Trailblazer Invitational.

Anais Guibal showed that she could string together a lot of birdies but needs to be more consistent and not compound her mistakes; she will be third in the lineup.

Ellie Olsen will be fourth in the lineup for the Thunderbirds, a slight equipment change from the first tournament, and she will be looking to add some consistency to the Thunderbird lineup.

Cornelia Karlsson had one of her best tournaments for SUU, struggled scoring, but avoided big numbers, and she will be in the fifth spot for SUU.

Reece Bandemer will be competing as an individual again; if she can put together three quality rounds, she could definitely find herself in the lineup soon.
