CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The Southern Utah Women's Soccer team will host one more final non-conference game at home against Sacramento State on Thursday, September 19, at 1:00 p.m. on the Thunderbird Soccer Field. Then, on Sunday, September 22, the team will head to Northern Arizona for the final game of non-conference action.
Head Coach Kai Edwards said
"Sacramento State is a competitive Big Sky team. We haven't played them in a while. They play a tough non-league schedule and they will come here ready to get after it. Heading to NAU for the second match versus a Big Sky team and a conference champion will test our ability to get after it in both games this weekend."

The Thunderbirds
SUU moved to 1-5-2 on the year after a 0-0 draw against Idaho State and a 3-0 loss at Boise State. Shutting out ISU was a big accomplishment and proved that this team can compete with anybody. The same goes for the match at Boise State, which was tied 0-0 at the half. Both teams are explosive offensively, and the Thunderbirds did well to manage both of those games.Â
SUU was without Whitney Gardner at Boise State, but she still leads the team in total points and is tied for the lead in both goals (2) and assists (3).Â
Sarah Assumma and Chelsea Loeser both have a pair of goals on the season, and Steph Roper has three points on three assists this season.Â
Roper has a team-high eight shots on target, so it is only a matter of time before she starts finding the back of the net.Â
The Hornets
Sacramento State is a quality program that has played a very tough non-conference schedule and is currently sitting at 2-3-3 on the year. Their two wins on the season are against Houston Christian, whom they beat 3-1, and against CSUN just two games ago, the final of which was 1-0.Â
They're most recently coming off a 1-1 tie at CSUB.Â
The Hornets are led by Ellie Farber and Abigail Lopez. Both have five points on the year, two goals, and one assist each. Lopez leads the team in total shots (22) and shots on target (10).Â
Izzy Palmatier has been in goal for all eight games this season and has conceded 11 goals, but has had an impressive 45 saves this year.Â
The Lumberjacks
NAU has played a tough non-conference schedule, and their record shows that. They're still looking for their first win of the season and are currently 0-4-2 on the year. It opened the season with a very impressive 1-1 tie at Arizona State and then lost 5-0 to the University of Arizona. Most recently, it lost 1-0 at GCU.Â
The Lumberjacks will host New Mexico on the Thursday before SUU comes to town.Â
NAU has only scored three goals on the year, and each goal was scored by a different player. McKenzie Coleman, Joey Lujan, and Deniah Wells each have one goal and one assist on the year.Â
Trinity Corcoran has played the most time in net for the Lumberjacks and has a save percentage of 81%.Â
