FRESNO, CALIFORNIA -- The SUU Men's Golf team wrapped up play at the Nick Watney Invitational with a 12th-place finish, led by Senior Leo Torres, who finished tied for 21st at -1 for the tournament.
Head Coach Richard Church said
"I am obviously proud of Leo and the way he played. A really solid first day, and battled in the final round to put together a decent score. We are doing better limiting the mistakes, just need to put it together for 54 holes."

The Thunderbirds
Leo Torres fired a career-low 67 in the opening round that had him in a tie for second after 18 holes of play. He followed that up with a 70 in round two and was in a tie for seventh place after day one. On the final day, Torres was three-over through five holes and battled his way to shoot a final round 75 and finish the tournament tied for 21st at -1.
Sophomore Charlie Gillespie played a very consistent 54 holes. Shooting rounds of 73, 74, and 74 to finish tied for 46th at +8.Â
Rashon Williams made seven birdies through 54 holes and tied for 60th at +13.
Luke Barnes who competed as an individual finished 68th, Boston Dixon made his debut in the lineup for the Thunderbirds and had a quality final round that helped him to a 71st finish and Jing-Cheng (Jarrel) Wang finished 76th.
The Thunderbirds made 39 birdies on their way to a 12th-place finish at +34.

The Thunderbirds will take the short trip to Boulder City, Nevada, to compete in the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by South Dakota State on March 7-8.
