Freshman Uy Doan and Sophomore Jing-Cheng (Jarell) Wang Finish Top-20 at The Bluejay Invitational

OMAHA, NEBRASKA – The Southern Utah Men's Golf team closed out the Bluejay Invitational in ninth place, finishing with a three-round total of +17 (299–293–289) at Shadow Ridge Country Club.

Head Coach Richard Church said

"We played well for the most part. The guys competed for all three rounds, and we had a really good final round, shooting one-over as a team. We need to clean up the double and triple bogeys, but overall I am proud of the way the team competed."

Tournament Recap

Freshman Uy Doan led the way for the Thunderbirds with three straight rounds of even-par or better, posting scores of 72, 70, and 70 to finish at -4 for the tournament, good enough for solo ninth. He carded nine birdies and an eagle across the tournament, highlighted by a birdie and an eagle in his final round. Jing-Cheng (Jarell) Wang also delivered a strong performance, recording rounds of 71, 75, and 70 to close at even-par in a tie for 20th, while picking up an impressive 10 birdies along the way. Wang made six birdies in the opening round, including four in a row on the back nine.

Braylon Bingham contributed rounds of 79, 74, and 74 to finish at +11 in a tie for 55th, notching seven birdies through three rounds. Charlie Gillespie tallied rounds of 77, 74, and 75 for a +10 and a T53 finish, highlighted by six birdies and an eagle. Rounding out the lineup, Colton Cherry opened with a 75 and finished at +16 on the tournament, collecting five birdies during the week.

In total, the Thunderbirds combined for 36 birdies and three eagles at the event, showing their ability to score on a challenging Shadow Ridge layout. With multiple under-par rounds and steady improvement throughout the tournament, SUU will look to carry this momentum forward into the rest of the fall schedule.
