PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA -- The SUU Men's Golf team participated in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, California, at the Classic Club over the past three days. The Thunderbirds finished T17th as a team at +27 over par.
Head Coach Richard Church said
"We weren't at our best for all three rounds. We had a quality second round that helped our finishing position, but we are better than what we showed this week. It was a challenging field and a good opportunity for us."

True freshman Uy Doan paced the Thunderbirds, finishing tied for 46th at +2. Doan delivered SUU's low round of the tournament with a second-round 70 (-2), helping the team post its best round of the week. Doan made eight birdies through the three rounds, including four during his two-under-par second round.
Charlie Gillespie followed, tying for 63rd at +5 after steady rounds of 75, 72, and 74. Braylon Bingham finished just behind him in a tie for 68th at +6, highlighted by a second-round 71 (-1). Gillespie used four birdies in his final round to shoot a 74, and Bingham made five birdies on the front nine, including four in a row, to fire his second round 71.
Jing-Cheng (Jarell) Wang added a +15 to finish tied for 102nd, while Luke Barnes rounded out the Thunderbirds' lineup at +24.
Southern Utah's second-round 289 marked the team's strongest performance of the tournament as the Thunderbirds battled a deep and competitive field at The Classic Club. The experience gained this week will help SUU continue building momentum heading into the remainder of the spring schedule.
Next Up
Men's Golf will be back in action next month, when they tee it up at The Watney Invitational in Fresno, California, at the San Joaquin Country Club. The tournament is hosted by Fresno State and will take place on Monday and Tuesday, March 2-3.
