CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Southern Utah women's tennis team and Interim Director of Tennis Sadhaf Pucher are excited to announce the signing of Chloe Purkiss and Hsuan-Yu Lin to the 2019-20 roster.
Chloe Purkiss
A native to Adelaide, Australia, Purkiss has an Australian ranking of 550 and played in numerous competitive tournaments before moving to the United States. As well as playing for the Division 1 Brisbane Tennis League, she also won the Hervey Bay Championship and represented the South Australian Bruce Cup and State of Origin Queensland Team.
"Chloe's attitude and character is what I am most impressed with," Pucher said. "She is hungry for success, which is the key quality we look for when recruiting."
During her time at The University of Texas at El Paso, Purkiss began her collegiate career with three wins in one day against Western New Mexico and went 5-6 overall in singles.
During her 2017-18 season at UTEP, Purkiss claimed a back to back victories against Maria Briones from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, and all-conference winner in doubles and singles, Sherine Salem, from Tarleton State.
Purkiss plans on studying nutrition and physiotherapy while at Southern Utah.
Hsuan Yu Lin
All the way from Taiwan, Hsuan-Yu Lin comes to SUU with a strong tennis background. She has an ITF singles ranking of 775 and has claimed numerous tournament titles.Lin has competed in and won the 2016 Hyogo International Junior Tournament 1 and 2 in doubles and singles, 2016 ITF Terengganu International Junior
Championship in doubles, and the 2016 PHINMA-PSC International Juniors Tournament in doubles.
"Lin has been in our ESL program this last semester, so she has been able to have some time to get acclimated to our campus. I believe with her talent and our program structure, she will develop quickly," Pucher said.
