CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Southern Utah women's tennis team defeated Big Sky opponent University of Northern Colorado at home 6-1 to improve to a 9-7 overall record.
The Thunderbirds swept doubles competition to put themselves ahead 1-0 at the start. In the No.1 spot, Ghita Nassik and Mikala Lowrance won their match 6-1, setting the tone for the rest of the doubles matches.
Eira Tobrand and Zoe Tanti followed them with another victory for the T-Birds in the No. 2 spot, taking the match 6-2. Finally, in the No. 3 spot, Laura Martin Lozano and Daniela Cozzi defeated Northern Colorado 6-3 for another solid win.
The singles competition followed a similar pattern, with the Thunderbirds winning five of the six matches. In the No. 1 spot, Ghita Nassik pulled off the tough win after battling back and forth with, but in the end taking down Rafa Mora of Northern Colorado 6-4, 7-5.
Zoe Tanti contributed another point for the Thunderbirds when she took down her opponent 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot. Following her was Eira Tobrand in the No. 3 spot. Tobrand won in three sets, after a slow start to win her match 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Northern Colorado won their only point in the No. 4 spot in a three set match against Charity Sagiao.
At the end of the match, Daniela Cozzi came away in the No. 5 spot winning 6-2, 6-3, with teammate Mikala Lowrance winning in the No. 6 spot 6-2, 6-2 to put the T-Birds at a final score of 6-1.

The next match will be on Tuesday, March 31 at 12 p.m. in Cedar City against the Montana State University.
