CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Southern Utah women's tennis team fell to Sacramento State University at Hurricane High School today in a close contest (3-4).

Starting off in the doubles competition were Thunderbirds Ghita Nassik and Mikala Lowrance in the No. 1 spot where the match was left at 4-3, unfinished. In the No. 2 spot, Eira Tobrand and Zoe Tanti took down their opponents in a 6-3 match to give Southern Utah the advantage for the doubles point.

Finally, in the No. 3 spot, Laura Martin Lozano and Daniela Cozzi took out Dorian and Wicker of Sacramento State 6-3 to solidify the doubles point for the T-Birds.

In the singles competition, Thunderbird Eira Tobrand won in the No. 3 spot followed by Alex Ngo in the No. 6 spot. Ngo marked the second and only other win for Southern Utah in the singles competition. Sacramento State took the No 1, 2, 4 and 5 spots to put for a close win, 4-3.

The team will regroup to prepare for their match tomorrow against the University of North Dakota.

After the match, head coach Rose Ketmayura commented, " Sacramento State is a good team. They came out wanting it more and being there mentally after the doubles. They were the better team. We will regroup because every day is a new day. This was a good learning moment for us."

Coming Up Next

The next match will be on Saturday, April 21 at 12 p.m. in Moscow, Idaho against the University of Idaho.

The match on Sunday, April 22 at 10 a.m. in Cheney, Wash. against the Eastern Washington University.
