FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- The Southern Utah Thunderbird track and field teams competed at the NAU Lumberjack Team Challenge where they set a high bar for performance as they continue the season.
To start the evening of events, Kasey Knevelbaard took charge of the track when he finished first in the mile locking in a time of 4:10.04. Knevelbaard was followed closely by George Espino. The graduate athlete finished with a time of 4:13.28 placing second overall.
Liam Kennell also ranked top five in the mile with a time of 4:29.93.
In the women's mile Angie Nickerson ruled out all competition with a first place finish timing 5:06.06. Nickerson was followed by Madison Fruchey in fifth place.
The Thunderbirds also took control of the track when they competed in the 400-meter dash. Justin Lewis completed the dash first overall with a time of 47.46. He was followed closely by Brandan Harley in second place with a time of 48.62.
On the women's side of the team, Linnea Saltz secured a second place finish overall. Saltz closed in on the competition with a time of 56.44.
Sinclair Watson also secured a top five finish for the women when she competed in the 60-meter dash. The senior athlete finished fifth overall with a time of 7.64.
As the evening continued, Frank Harris claimed first place with a jump of 6' 10 â…—" in the high jump.
Lauren Emter also competed in the field for the Thunderbirds. Emter finished the shot put with a throw of 44' 3 ½".
Events at NAU concluded with the 3,000-meter. On the women's side of the team, Alison Pray swept the competition with a first place finish. Pray locked in a time of 10:14.53.
Knevelbaard returned to the track for the 3,000-meter where he claimed his second championship of the night. The senior athlete earned first place with a time of 8:32.14.
