ST. GEORGE, Utah -- The Southern Utah men's tennis team took down Big Sky Conference opponent Portland State 4-3 in St. George moving them to 3-2 in conference.
During doubles play, senior Salvador Mijares and sophomore Agustin Tamagnone defeated Matteo Fortini and Tommy Edwards 7-6 in the No. 1 spot. Following them, on court two, Conor Tordoff and Jonathan Morales shut down their opponents from Portland 6-1, putting the T-Birds up in the match 1-0.
Keonho Shin and Remus Cope were defeated by Sam Roberts and Majeed Bukhari 6-2 in the No. 3 spot.
Mijares won his 10th match this season in the No. 1 spot against Fortini 7-5, 6-4.
Agustin Tamagnone was able to defeat Nikola Dimitrijevic in the on court three 6-3, 6-1, scoring the Thunderbirds third point of the match.
Putting the match out of reach, Juan Erro defeated Sam Roberts 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 6 spot, pushing SUU to 4-3.
In the No. 2 position, Morales was overcome by his opponent from Portland 6-7, 1-6. The Portland State Vikings claimed wins on court against Morales, court four against Cope and on court five against Shin.
The Thunderbirds will compete on March 24 against Weber State in St. George at 1 p.m.
