CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Southern Utah University men's tennis team faced Colorado Mesa University on Friday in their first home match where they claimed the victory 7-0. On Saturday, the Thunderbirds traveled to Salt Lake City to face the University of Utah where they fell 0-7.

The Thunderbirds started competition against CMU with singles play where Conor Tordoff claimed a victory over the Maverik's Mitchell Steadman 6-1, 6-0.  In the No. 2 position, RJ Parker secured a T-Bird victory against C. Albrechtsen. Jose Ortega followed with another win against Steven Howe 6-3, 6-1.

Jake Williams finished No. 4 with a T-Bird win against Jandre Van Wyk 6-2, 6-3. In the No. 5 spot, Juan Erro claimed another victory over CMU's Alain De La Bastide 7-6, 6-3. Keonho Shin closed singles play with a final Thunderbird win against Tyler Landen 6-2, 6-7, 1-0.

In doubles play, Erro and Tordoff faced Landen and Howe where they claimed the No. 1 position after a 6-1 victory. Williams and McCaig claimed another T-Bird win over Moises Cure and Thiago Njem 6-1. To secure the Thunderbird sweep, Parker and Shin defeated Bastide and Albrechtsen 6-2.

The team also travelled to Salt Lake City to face the University of Utah where the Utes topped the T-Birds 0-7.

In singles play, Shin fought a tough battle against Utah's Mathias Gavelin where he fell 5-7, 6-4, 7-10. Erro also put up a fight against Slavan Shainyan and ultimately lost 4-6, 6-3, 3-10.

Parker and Shin faced Benkaim and Randy Cory in doubles play where they fell 2-4. 

The Thunderbirds look to face Portland State as they open conference play on February 28.
